1982 was a transition year for the production of cents. The mint started producing copper cents but then transitioned to copper-zinc planchets, due to the high price of copper. The mint also changed from large dates to small dates. Here's a set of four 1982 off centers from the Philadelphia mint. Upper left: 1982 large date CU. Red-brown somewhat mottled. Upper right: 1982 large date CUZN. Red-brown mostly red with lots of bubbles due to problems with the CU layer bonding with the ZN planchet. Lower left: 1982 small date CU. Red-brown mostly red. Lower right: 1982 small date CUZN. Red-brown mostly red with lots of ZN exposed. Putting together a Denver set is much more difficult.
